#12-Ryan Newman won the pole for the Nextel All-Star Challenge at Lowe’s Motor Speedway with a time of 122.443 seconds in his 3 laps and 4 tire pit stop. #6-Mark Martin will start 2nd, followed by #2-Rusty Wallace, #38-Elliott Sadler and #9-Kasey Kahne. #20-Tony Stewart came in too fast on his stop and slammed on the brakes and spun around. #15-Michael Waltrip bottomed out on his first lap, but saved it but will start 16th. Three drivers were penalized 20 seconds for speeding entering pit road: #88-Jarrett, #29-Harvick, #8-Earnhardt Jr. Three drivers were penalized 5 seconds for loose/missing lug nuts: #16-Biffle, #19-Mayfield, #24-Gordon. If Biffle didn’t have the penalty, he would had won the pole with a 121.725 seconds. Newman’s car is sporting the new Alltel logo.
