Darrell Waltrip, Jeff Hammond and Larry McReynolds have teamed up to help the folks in the Charlotte Coliseum that have been displaced from the Gulf States due to Hurricane Katrina. Nicknamed “The Cavalry is Coming”, at lunchtime today a rig loaded with supplies will pull to the front of the Coliseum and Jeff and Larry Mac will be on hand to help off-load the supplies. There are roughly 600 people currently in the Charlotte Coliseum who need help. “This whole idea came together at 5pm yesterday,” said Waltrip. “I wish I could have been there today. Jeff and Larry are literally going to the store and picking out the items but I am also helping work with the Red Cross over here in TN today. These people have been through so much. We just want them to know that we care and give them hope for a better tomorrow.”(9-7-2005)
