#12-Ryan Newman won the Budweiser pole for the Neighborhood Excellence 400 at Dover International Speedway with a speed of 154.633mph for his 1st pole of 2006 and 36th of his career, but his first in 14 races, which was Texas in November 2005. #19-Mayfield will start on the outside pole, 2nd, for the 2nd race in a row, followed by #24-Jeff Gordon. #2-Kurt Busch and #29-Kevin Harvick. Qualifying was delayed over an hour as heavy rain fell, but the sun came back out and the concrete surface dried quickly. Points leader #48-Jimmie Johnson came off turn 4 on his first lap, looped the car around a few times, came close but missed hitting the inside or outside walls with no damage to the car. #20-Ricky Rudd qualified Tony Stewart’s car 10th [but Stewart will start the car Sunday and have to go to the rear of the field before the start of the race, Rudd will get in under the first caution]. #61-Chad Chaffin wrecked in turn 2 on his first lap and will miss the race, along with #34-Carl Long and #95-Stanton Barrett. #52-Neuenberger never took a lap in practice or qualifying. #00-Hermie Sadler [starting 16th] and #49-Kevin Lepage qualified best of the go-or-go homers [non top-35 in owners points]. #55-Waltrip made the race and will start 33rd. #78-Kenny Wallace wrecked in practice but still got the backup car in the field at 37th.
