Daytona 500 testing – Day 7 OVER:

AM Speeds: with rain approaching later in the day and testing now scheduled to stop at 4pm/et, 33 drivers in 48 cars tested today at Daytona, #2C-Kurt Busch, driving a Dodge Avenger COT [car of tomorrow] led the speeds 191.188mph [using a 1 1/8″ restrictor plate instead of the 7/8″ plate], after that, speeds dropped back to normal, 2nd fastest was #24A-Gordon at 184.596, followed by #40-Stremme, #38A-Gilliland and #42-Montoya. #12C-Newman also in the Dodge Avenger COT was much slower at 181.003 which was 36th fastest. Slowest of the session was #30-Barrett at 178.288. #58-Hylton wasn’t listed on the sheet. RAINED OUT: the rains came at 1:30pm/et and testing has been called off and is over, 33 drivers in 56 cars tested, fastest in the short PM drafting session was #15A-Menard at 187.099mph, followed by #5B-Busch, #21A-Schrader, #39A-Smith and #09B-Mike Wallace. The fastest Dodge was #19A-Sadler at 16th and the fastest Toyota was #00B-Reutimann at 8th. Slowest was #19B-Sadler at 179.530 [but he ran 16th in the #19A], slowest by driver was #49B-Bliss at 181.668 Next up is Las Vegas testing on Jan. 29-30, 2007.
