Four drivers test Goodyear tires at Atlanta:

Nextel Cup Series drivers #29-Kevin Harvick [Chevy], #25-Casey Mears [Chevy], #9-Scott Riggs [Dodge] and #36-Jeremy Mayfield [Toyota] participated in the first of a two-day tire test today at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Goodyear tested tires on both the Car of Tomorrow and the current model stock car during the eight-hour test. Goodyear tested their tires for wear, heat, grip level and load today. Casey Mears topped the unofficial speed charts with a lap of 183.576 mph (30.20 seconds) in his #25 Chevrolet current car and a lap of 181.770 mph (30.50 seconds) in the #25 COT. Mears was followed by Scott Riggs driving the #9 car, Kevin Harvick and Jeremy Mayfield. “The Car of Tomorrow is a half-second slower than the other cars, but that should make more exciting racing here,” Kevin Harvick said. “The COT didn’t drive bad at all and fans are going to have to come out here in March and see these new cars for themselves at AMS.” NASCAR drivers will attempt to tame the blistering speeds of Atlanta Motor Speedway during the Oct. 28 Pep Boys Auto 500. Great seats are still available and can obtained by calling (877) 9-AMS-TIX or by visiting www.atlantamotorspeedway.com.(AMS PR)(8-28-2007)
