VIRginia International Raceway’s popular open Stock Car test day is coming, Wednesday, May 27. Many stock car racers will be testing and tuning their cars in preparation for the races at Sonoma and Watkins Glen. Crews and drivers alike enjoy the calm atmosphere of testing at VIR. “Bootie” Barker, crew chief for Michael Waltrip this year, says: “It’s a very nice facility, nice accommodations. You have a place to stay (with the Lodge.)” Fans are admitted to the infield, all day, for only $10 in advance or $20 at the gate. Tickets can be bought on the track’s web site, at www.virclub.com/buy-tickets.html. As always this year, fans ages fifteen and under are admitted free with a paid adult guest. Fans are welcome to watch from any of the many scenic spots around the track, with favorites including “NASCAR Bend” – named for the stars who failed to negotiate the turn in a race in the 60s; the approach to Turn Seven and the bridge and the top of the downhill “Rollercoaster.” VIRginia International Raceway is a multi-purpose road racing facility, located on the Dan River between Danville and South Boston, Virginia.
