Each year the AARWBA [American Auto Racing Writers & Broadcasters Association, Inc.] members select a 7-driver All America Team from Open Wheel, Stock Car, Sports Car, Drag Racing, Short Track, Touring Series and At Large championship categories. A banquet is held to honor these drivers each January. The driver receiving the most votes is presented the “Jerry Titus Memorial Award,” which is AARWBA’s “Driver of the Year” award. Jerry Titus was a member of AARWBA who was a motor sports journalist and a winning race driver. Schumacher, a Titus Award winner in 2006 and 2008, is joined on the First Team by Dario Franchitti (Open Wheel), Mark Martin (Stock Car), Jon Fogarty/Alex Gurney (Road Racing), Donny Schatz (Short Track), Ron Hornaday (Touring Series), and J.R. Hildebrand (At-Large). The Jerry Titus Award, which is given in remembrance of the late racer/journalist, will be presented to the top vote-getter among the eight First Team drivers at the conclusion of the AARWBA All-America ceremonies in Brownsburg, Ind., Jan. 16.(AARWBA PR)(11-30-2009)
