Barney Hall recipient of the 2009 NMPA Myers Brothers Award:

MRN Radio’s Barney Hall, known to generations of NASCAR fans for his distinctive delivery and storytelling, is the recipient of the 2009 NMPA Myers Brothers Award. The award, named in honor of former NASCAR competitors Billy and Bobby Myers, was presented Thursday in Las Vegas in conjunction with tonight’s Sprint Cup Series Awards Ceremony which will be broadcast live on MRN, with Hall and Joe Moore anchoring the coverage. Hall was recognized for a lifetime of achievement in radio broadcasting. He recently completed his 51st year covering stock car racing. He was inducted into the National Motorsports Press Association Hall of Fame in 2007 and also has an award named for him that recognizes outstanding work in the field of radio broadcasting. “Despite all of NASCAR’s changes through the years, Barney Hall remains one of the sport’s constants,” said NMPA President Dustin Long. “Barney is a regular Sunday visitor to many fans. He takes them to the track, describes the scene and shares unique stories about their racing heroes. He works with a grace and style that earns the respect of many.”
Voted on each year by members of the NMPA, the Myers Brothers Award recognizes individuals and/or groups that have provided outstanding contributions to the sport of stock car racing. Mark Martin, runner-up in this year’s Chase for the Sprint Cup, and the late David Poole of The Charlotte Observer also were finalists.(MRN Radio)(12-4-2009)
