#39-Ryan Newman placed 14th and #33-Clint Bowyer managed a 9th, and that was all it took for Bowyer to unseat Newman in this week’s Top 12. Tony Stewart’s strong third place run brought him within a single point of the Top 12. #9-Kasey Kahne’s harrowing wreck at Pocono ruined the finish for a lot of cars, and may have put the Bud driver out of serious contention for the ’10 Chase. The 27th place finish dropped him to 240 points out of the Top 12, in 23rd place. Only once in the history of The Race to the Chase has a driver come from that far back: Matt Kenseth overcame a 320-point deficit in 24th place at this point in 2005. #11-Denny Hamlin has found Victory Lane four of the last 9 races, but his teammate #18-Kyle Busch has a string of 8 straight top 10 finishes over that stretch, and five podium finishes.
