Racing runs in Jeff Choquette’s family. His grandfather, Jack, competed in six Sprint Cup Series races. His dad, John, works on cars and raced when he was younger. His brother Corey races and works on Jeff’s crew. Choquette will first race tonight in the late-model 3M 150, then in Saturday’s American Ethanol 200 truck event, two chances to make his breakthrough in front of big-time racing teams. Choquette, who lives in The Acreage and works for his dad’s construction company, races for Adrian Carriers and Liz Girl Logistics. He’s been racing his whole life, but his return this weekend to Iowa is a special one. Not only are both races significant to his career, the 25-year-old also won his first ASA Midwest Tour event at the Newton, Iowa, racecourse last year. He just missed the top 10 in the Iowa Speedway’s July edition of the American Ethanol 200. He’s following in the footsteps of Jack Choquette, now 83, who in the 1950s raced against NASCAR legends Fireball Roberts and Lee Petty. Jack twice finished in the top 10, including second and ninth place in two races at Palm Beach International Raceway and a solid 12th-place spot at Daytona Beach over 1955 and 1956.(PalmBeachPost.com)(9-14-2012)
