Sad News – Mike Martin:

Lafourche Parish Assessor Mike Martin, who held the office for more than 13 years, died Tuesday at Terrebonne General Medical Center. Martin’s exact cause of death hasn’t been determined, according to his father, Leroy Martin. Mike quit breathing at his home Feb. 23 as he and his wife prepared to travel to Birmingham, Ala., for a doctor’s visit related to Mike’s kidney transplant, Leroy said. ‘She tried to give him CPR and called 911 ‘¦ they stabilized him and sent him to Terrebonne General,’ Leroy said. Mike, unable to breath on his own, remained hospitalized and connected to machines until Tuesday, when his family made the decision to remove him from life support. Leroy said his son was already brain dead, and his condition wasn’t going to change. In addition to his father, Mike Martin leaves behind his wife, Tammy, and son, Hal, 28. Hal Martin races in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, and his dad was one of his biggest fans from early on. ‘He loved to watch him race and would go where he would race. He followed him everywhere he went,’ Leroy said. Mike Martin was an attorney, and he served as a Lafourche Parish assistant district attorney before following in the footsteps of his father as assessor in 2001. He also served as president of the Louisiana Assessor’s Association earlier in his tenure. The funeral is set for 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Golden Meadow.(Daily Comet)
