#22-Joey Logano won the Duck Commander 500 Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway for his 1st win of 2014 and his 4th career win. Logano is the seventh different winner in seven races in 2014. Logano led the most laps with 108 of 334.
Logano is the youngest Sprint Cup Series race winner ever at Texas at 23 years, 10 months, and 13 days old beating the old record set by Ryan Newman in 2003 who was 25 years, 3 months, 22 days old.
The race was delayed a day due to rain. The race was scheduled to run Sunday, April 6th. The race started under green-yellow allowing the cars to warm up the track for the first ten laps. During the 10 laps #2-Keselowski got too close to one of the track dryers and it popped the hood up. Keselowski made a few pit stops and the crew taped down the hood. Other cars that came in to get the cowl flaps checked and closed included: #1-McMurray, #10-Patrick, #18-Busch, #51-Allgaier, #31-Newman, #15-Bowyer, #5-Kahne, #48-Johnson, #20-Kenseth.
Logano was leading just before the white flag when #41-Busch lost another tire and left debris on the track. All the lead lap cars made pit stops with #24-Gordon and #55-Vickers coming out 1-2 after changing only two tires. #22-Logano came out 3rd and passed Gordon at the white flag to take the lead and coasted to the win, cementing a spot in the 2014 Chase.
#24-Gordon finished 2nd followed by: #18-Busch, #55-Vickers, #42-Larson, #16-Biffle, #20-Kenseth, #15-Bowyer,#27-Menard and pole winner #14-Stewart.
On lap 12 of the Duck Commander 400 Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway, #88-Earnhardt Jr. went low on the front stretch, getting into the grass, which was wet. The left front of the car buckled and the left front tire blew sending the #88 up the track and into the outside wall hard. The car caught fire but Earnhardt Jr. got out and was fine. The car was not and retired from the race. #48-Johnson’s car was damage when debris from the wreck hit the nose of the car and damaged thew windshield. Johnson fell 2 laps off the pace and never recovered, finishing 25th.
#42-Lason was the rookie of the race, finishing 5th.
#88-Earnhardt Jr., who came into the race as the points leader finished 43rd when he wrecked on lap 12, fell to 6th in points and #24-Gordon takes over the points lead for the first time since after Charlotte in May 2009, 4 points over #20-Kenseth.
There were 18 lead changes among 9 drivers and there were 7 cautions for 49 yellow flag laps.
The average speed was 134.191 mph.
