Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown to be held at Langley Speedway in 2016:

When Buck Reuss was asked why the Denny Hamlin Foundation is finally bringing the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown to Langley Speedway on April 21, 2016, he got right to the point. “It’s Langley’s turn,” said Reuss, Langley Speedway’s pit road race announcer and the race coordinator of Hamlin’s annual charity race. “I’ve been saying for years that the race should come to Langley. Langley is where Denny Hamlin won the 1997 Mini-Stock championship and raced Grand Stocks in 1998. This gives the fans in Hampton Roads a chance to see it and businesses all the way to Virginia Beach a chance to contribute to charities supported by the Denny Hamlin Foundation.” The Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown is held each spring in conjunction with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stop at Richmond International Raceway. It annually draws many of the top Cup drivers in a race against some of the best Late Model drivers in the Mid-Atlantic region.” The race – held previously at Southside Speedway, RIR and South Boston Speedway – benefits a number of charities supported by Hamlin: the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Kyle Petty Victory Junction Gang Camp, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the VCU Children’s Hospital. Reuss says the race raises from $30,000-$100,000 annually for Hamlin’s foundation.(Daily Press)(9-6-2015)
