STATESVILLE, N.C. (Aug. 14, 2018) – Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, one of America’s largest retailers of closeouts, excess inventory, and salvage merchandise, signed on as primary sponsor of GMS Racing’s No. 23 Ollie’s Chevrolet Camaro to be driven by Chase Elliott for Friday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
“Ollie’s is a fun brand to go racing with as they are big supporters of grass roots racing,” said Elliott, 22, who hails from Dawsonville, Ga. “They have been around the sport of NASCAR for a long time and their involvement as a car sponsor has helped them grow their number of locations.
Elliott, the 2014 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion, is racing a select number of NASCAR Xfinity Series races for GMS this season. To date, Elliott has recorded two top-10 finishes in his four starts for GMS, including a runner-up in his second start for GMS at Pocono Raceway on June 2. He did not finish the other two starts due to mechanical issues.
“Elliott has brought a lot to our operation in the racing sense, but he also has attracted great sponsors like Ollie’s,” said GMS Racing President Mike Beam. “We had a very strong fifth-place run at Bristol this spring and are hopeful with Chase and Ollie’s on board this time around, we can get into victory lane.”
Elliott, a full-time regular on the NASCAR Cup Series circuit for Hendrick Motorsports, is coming off his first career Cup win after leading 52 of 90 laps at the Watkins Glen International road course race on August 5.
“Chase has a ton of momentum on the race track right now, so it was a no-brainer to race with him and GMS Racing at Bristol Motor Speedway,” said Ollie’s President Mark Butler. “Chase is a great ambassador for the sport of NASCAR and is a threat to win anytime he gets into a race car.”
The Food City 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway airs Friday night, Aug. 17, at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN.
