- I am hearing from some sources close to the action at Texas Motor Speedway that besides the seepage in the turn one area there is also water seepage in the turn three and four areas and that track conditions are just TERRIBLE. There is a bump near turn four that is causing the cars to bottom out. There are a lot of torn up cars and upset drivers in Texas right now(4-3-98)
- UPDATE on Cup Qualifying Per RPM2Nite: Qualifying has been postponed until Saturday at 10:15am/et, the 9 drivers who have qualified so far will have their times stand(including Speed and Cope) with Dale Jarrett on the provisional pole. There will be no second round qualifying. NASCAR is treating it as a rain delay. Rusty Wallace is scheduled to be the first driver out. The events that led up to the postponement: Derrike Cope crashed first, then Steve Grissom ran his qualifying and slipped but was able to finish lap, and then Lake Speed crashed between one and two and NASCAR stopped qualifying to check out the problem. No word yet on Cope’s condition. PRN Radio will resume it’s coverage on qualifying at 10:15am/et.(4-3-98)
- While listening to Winston Cup Qualifying on PRN thru RealAudio found out that Texas Motor Speedway has water seeping through the turn one surface in many spots. NASCAR and TMS officials as well as Cup drivers and crews were out to the section of the track to survey the damage and the situation. The PRN announcers said they never remember seeing anything like it with a gaggle of people out on the track.(4-3-98)
- Morning practice on Friday had Joe Nemechek fastest at 185.039mph. Results up at NASCAR online. Jerry Nadeau was practicing Friday and will attempt to qualify the #13 Ford. Afternoon practice had Ward Burton fastest. TMS ate two more Cup cars Friday when Kenny Wallace, Billy Standridge and Terry Labonte wreaked their primary cars. Wallace had to go to a backup, looks like Labonte will be able to fix the car, unsure about Billy.(NASCAR Online)(4-3-98)
