WEATHER FORECAST UPDATE: for the Fort Worth/Justin TX area on Monday, April 19th is much better then the mess on Sunday. Cloudy. High 66F. Winds NE at 5 to 10 mph.(4-18-2010) - Notice from TMS: A persistent rain, coupled with an ominous forecast for the remainder of the day, has forced the postponement of Sunday’s Samsung Mobile 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race and O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 Nationwide Series event until Monday at Texas Motor Speedway. The Samsung Mobile 500 will begin at 11:00am/ct [12noon/et] and will be followed by the O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 at 4:00pm/ct. Fans holding tickets for either race will be allowed to enjoy both events. The Samsung Mobile 500 will be broadcast live on FOX while the O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 will be shown live on ESPN2.
“It was the fan friendly thing to do in terms of allowing our fans with either ticket to stay for both races,” Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage said. “The weather has inconvenienced all of them and for those who are able to stay they may as well enjoy 801 miles (501-mile Samsung Mobile 500, 300-mile O’Reilly Auto Parts 300) of NASCAR racing. We expect to accommodate all of those ticketholders and are optimistic that they will respect each other and find a nearby seat if they have the identical one.” The only time in the 14-year history of Texas Motor Speedway that a NASCAR event had to be run on Monday occurred in 2002. The Samsung/RadioShack 500 was run on April 8, 2002 and was won by #17-Matt Kenseth.
The gates will open at 9:00am/ct. The Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series garages, track credential office and TMS ticket office all will open at 8:00am/ct. - NHL star Modano to drive pace car at Texas: Dallas Stars center Mike Modano, the leading American-born goal scorer and points producer in NHL history, will be honored by Texas Motor Speedway by receiving the rare opportunity to drive the official pace car that will lead the 43-car field to the green flag for Sunday’s Samsung Mobile 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. Traditionally, honored race guests such as Modano get the chance to ride in the lead pace car or drive a secondary pace vehicle, but NASCAR has granted Texas Motor Speedway special permission for Modano to wheel the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro pace car that will lead the Sprint Cup Series field to the green flag. NASCAR’s customary pace car driver Brett Bodine, a former Sprint Cup Series driver, will provide Modano with a mandatory on-track orientation prior to the race. Modano is only the second celebrity in the 14-year history of Texas Motor Speedway to be given the honor of leading the field. The first was movie star Vince Vaughn, who paced the field to the green flag for the Dickies 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in November of 2007.(TMS)(4-18-2010)
