Sad News – David Gilliland Racing Hauler Driver Steven Stotts Killed in Accident: UPDATE

Steven C. Stotts, 54, of Valley Head, WestVirginia, and Boiling Springs, South Carolina, passed from this life on March 8, 2022, from injuries sustained in a trucking accident near Longview, Texas.

Born Sept. 19, 1967, in Charlotte, North Carolina, he was the son of Frank D. Stotts Sr. and Janice (Reed) Stotts. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Frank D. Stotts Jr.

Steve was a professional truck driver who worked for various companies including NASCAR racing teams and Christian recording artists, MercyMe.

He attended schools in North Carolina and West Virginia and was a cadet at Camden Military Academy in South Carolina. Steve was always ready to help others through his participation in Valley Head Volunteer Fire Department activities and numerous trucking charity events.

A visitation and memorial service will be held Saturday, March 26, at 2 p.m. at Faith Rising Community Church, 434 Museum Rd., Rock Hill, SC.

Original post: One person was killed and three injured in a crash Tuesday morning involving the hauler for David Gilliland Racing’s ARCA team, the Texas Department of Public Safety stated.

Steven C. Stotts, 54, died. He was listed as the driver of the DGR hauler by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

John Zaverl, 38, and Michael Mizzelle, 45, passengers in the hauler, were both transported to Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, Texas. Both were listed in stable condition, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

AND:  We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing of Steven Stotts, co-driver for our No. 17 ARCA team transporter, that was involved in an accident early this morning near Longview, Texas. Our deepest sympathies go out to Steven’s family and friends.

John Zaverl and Michael Mizzelle, who were passengers in the transporter, have been treated and released from a local hospital. Our continued thoughts are with the driver of the second vehicle involved in the accident.
