Ryan Preece transported to hospital after late Daytona accident UPDATES released; cleared to race

UPDATE 3 9-1-2023: Ryan Preece says he will return to his #41 Ford this weekend at Darlington Raceway.

 

UPDATE 2 8-27-2023: Ryan Preece was discharged from Halifax Health Medical Center earlier this morning following his accident last night in the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway. The driver of the No. 41 Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing is on his way home to North Carolina.

UPDATE 8-27-2023: NASCAR Cup Series driver Ryan Preece will remain overnight at Halifax Health Medical Center for continued observation. The driver of the No. 41 Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing is awake, alert and mobile and has been communicating with family and friends. Preece will undergo another evaluation by medical personnel later this morning. An update will be provided in the afternoon.

UPDATE 8-26-2023: Ryan Preece tweeted late Saturday night following his Daytona accident.

“If you want to be a race car driver, you better be tough. Dammit. Fast Race Choice Ford Mustang. I’m coming back.”

ORIGINAL POST: NASCAR says that #41-Ryan Preece was transported to a local hospital following his violent accident on lap 156 of Saturday night’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway.

Preece was able to climb out of the car following the accident but was placed on a stretcher before being put in an ambulance to the infield care center.
