Matt Mills transported to hospital following wreck at Homestead: UPDATES

UPDATE 4 10-29-2024: Following a scary incident in last week’s race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Matt Mills was transported to the Jackson South Medical Center where he stayed two nights for further evaluation after suffering smoke inhalation. A group of doctors from both the NASCAR medical team and the hospital released Mills on Monday and later approved him to compete in Friday’s race at Martinsville Speedway.

UPDATE 3 10-28-2024: Matt Mills was released from the hospital on Monday afternoon after being held for two days for smoke inhalation following the wreck at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

“I can’t wait to be back at the racetrack at Martinsville this weekend and continue doing what I love. It was definitely a scary situation I’ve had but it’s part of the sport,” Mills said.

AND: Matt Mills has been released from Jackson South Medical Center as of Monday, October 28 and has safely returned home to North Carolina.

Mills, driver of the No. 42 for Niece Motorsports was transported and held for observation after an incident in Saturday’s NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

UPDATE 2 10-27-2024: Matt Mills will again remain overnight at a local hospital for observation. Doctors continue to monitor Mills’ oxygen levels due to smoke inhalation.

Mills, driver of the No. 42 for Niece Motorsports was transported on Saturday, October 26 and held for overnight observation after an incident in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Matt and team are thankful for the track safety crews, NASCAR medical team, and all hospital staff for the continued care.

UPDATE 10-26-2024:  Matt Mills will remain at a local hospital for continued observation overnight.

Mills, driver of the No. 42 for Niece Motorsports, was transported after an incident in Saturday afternoon’s NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

AND: Conner Jones issued a statement following Saturday’s incident on social media.

“I underestimated the impact my actions would have on Matt, and I deeply regret the consequences that followed,” Jones said in part.

“I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to Matt, Niece Motorsports, NASCAR, and my entire ThorSport Racing team for my unsportsmanlike behavior.”

AND: Conner Jones (ThorSport Racing) was parked two laps by NASCAR during the Truck Series race for what appeared to be a retaliatory intentional crash against Matt Mills (Niece Motorsports) on Lap 76 of the Truck Series race at Homestead Miami Speedway on Saturday.

Mills, who climbed out of the truck under his own power, was transported to a local hospital.
