Today, NASCAR announced a distinguished lineup of military and civic leaders who will participate in pre-race ceremonies for the inaugural Navy 250 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series Race at Naval Base Coronado on Fri., June 19.
Rear Admiral Rich Jarrett, Commander of Navy Region Southwest, will serve as Grand Marshal and deliver the most famous words in motorsports, commanding drivers to start their engines ahead of the historic NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race.
Joining Rear Admiral Jarrett in pre-race ceremonies will be Retired U.S. Navy SEAL Officer, bestselling author and leadership expert Jocko Willink, who will serve as Honorary Race Official. The Honorable John Duncan, Mayor of the City of Coronado will wave the green flag as Honorary Starter, while Machinist’s Mate Third Class Tyler Henderson, Naval Base Coronado’s FY-25 Junior Sailor of the Year, will ride in the pace car as Honorary Pace Car Rider.
“The inaugural Navy 250 represents a historic celebration of our nation’s sea services, and this group of incredible leaders is the perfect way to kick off the NASCAR San Diego Weekend,” said Amy Lupo, NASCAR San Diego President. “We’re honored to welcome such an accomplished group of military leaders and community dignitaries whose service, leadership and commitment embody the spirit of this event.”
Members of the military community and their families in attendance will also experience a patriotic pre-race ceremony featuring the Amphibious Construction Battalion ONE Color Guard, while Lieutenant Commander Brad Guillory, United States Navy Chaplain Corps, will deliver the invocation. Musician Second Class Ashley Pollock from Navy Band Southwest will perform the national anthem before a spectacular Osprey flyover by Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission Squadron Fifty (VRM-50) “Sunhawks” officially kicks off the inaugural event.
The Navy 250 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series Race marks the first national NASCAR series race contested aboard an active military installation, bringing together the excitement of world-class motorsports with a celebration of the men and women who serve their country. In keeping with that commitment, tickets for Friday night’s NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race are limited to members of the military community and their families.
