A Bowman Gray racing legend has passed away.
Gary Myers passed away Thursday after a period of declining health.
Myers is the father of Burt and Jason Myers son of Billy Myers. Gary is the second of a 4 generation family of racers at Bowman Gray which also includes his grandson Slate.
He won 38 races at Bowman Gray Stadium and was the 1996 SMART Modified Tour Champion.
He was a fixture at Bowman Gray Stadium for more than 60 years, being there watching his father and uncle, Billy and Bobby, race in the 1950s, through his own racing career, and then racing against and helping his son’s Burt and Jason become the great racers they are.
He also competed in 46 NASCAR Cup Series Races from 1974 to 1978.
Gary Myers was 76 years old.
