- Cope to the CTS UPDATE: Black Diamond Motorsports has named two-time NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series Champion Mike Cope to drive their (#15?)Ford F-150 truck in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on September 24th. Black Diamond Motorsports is located in Mooresville, NC, and is owned by businessmen Jim Allege, Richie Wauters, Billy Ballew, and Steve Fogleman. The Black Diamond Motorsports team consists of several NASCAR Busch Series, Craftsman Truck Series, and All Pro Series vehicles. Wauters, a veteran chassis specialist, has worked with drivers Scott Hansen, Kenny Wallace, Ted Musgrave, Darrell Waltrip, and Rich Bickle during his career in NASCAR and American Speed Association (ASA) competition. Wauters will serve as Crew Chief for Cope and Black Diamond Motorsports. Black Diamond Motorsports is actively seeking sponsorship for their planned three-race 1999 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedule. - Truck Testing/News: Four CTS teams tested Ford F-150s at Phoenix Monday. But more significant than kicking off preparations for the sixth CTS season were drivers testing for teams including the #99 Exide Batteries Ford. Phelon Motorsports is also in the process of working on a driver for its Carlin Burners & Controls Ford for 2000. Mike Stefanik drove the truck to the 1999 Rookie of the Year Award but he has not been guaranteed a seat for 2000. Rick Carelli returned to the track and tested the #66 Ford at Phoenix while Jimmy Hensley tested with the team at Texas on Tuesday. Roush Racing tested Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring champ Kurt Busch; two-time Goody’s Dash Series, NASCAR Touring champion Robert Huffman; 1998 Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series, NASCAR Touring champion Gary Lewis; 1999 ASA ACDelco Challenge Series champion Tim Sauter; and NASCAR Winston West Series racer Brandon Ash in the #99 Ford Truck. - Hornaday at Atlanta: Ron Hornaday recently tested an ARCA car at Atlanta in preparation of running the Atlanta Georgia Boot 400 ARCA Bondo/Mar-Hyde Series race on Nov 20th. Hornaday is using the race as a BGN test since he had never run on the track before the test(ARCA Racing Site)(11-15-1999)

- Biffle to BGN: Roush is planning to bring Craftsman Truck Series runner-up Greg Biffle into the Busch Grand National series in 2001. Roush doesn’t plan to leave the series when Biffle moves up to the Busch cars. - Cywinski/Brevak UPDATE: #31 Brevak Racing and Kevin Cywinski will part company after Saturday’s Truck race at California. No replacement driver has been named(NOL)(10-30-1999) — UPDATE: LaFavre Racing Teams of Lakeville, MN., has announced the return of 1997 ASA National Champion Kevin Cywinski for the 2000 ACDelco Series season. The 34-year-old Cywinski will be joined by Brian Danntine, who will serve as crew chief for the newly formed team(The Race News)(11-4-1999)
- Hornaday at Phoenix: Ron Hornaday, who will drive the #31 NAPA Chevrolet owned by Dale Earnhardt Inc. this weekend at Phoenix, is one of three drivers entered in the Grand National series race who have won a major NASCAR series event at the track. Hornaday won the NASCAR truck series events at the track in 1998 and 1999. Winston Cup driver Mike Skinner won both NASCAR truck events in 1995 and Winston Cup driver Bobby Hamilton won the Winston Cup race at PIR in 1996(That’s Racin’ BGN Notes)(11-3-1999)
- Chicago..bang-bang: Wednesday the Chicago Motor Speedway announced that the NCTS was coming to the Windy City next season, marking the debut of the trucks in the Chicagoland area. The race is scheduled for August 27(Racer Magazine)(11-3-1999)
- Dover/Trucks? UPDATE: Hearing that the CTS will race at Dover under the lights Friday night of the BGN/Cup weekend next September(11-2-1999) — UPDATE: Dover Downs Entertainment announced that the CTS will make its inaugural appearance at the Monster Mile on September 22, 2000(Friday). The addition of NASCAR’s newest major racing division will make what is already one of NASCAR’s biggest events even bigger with an action-packed triple-header MBNA Gold Weekend. The Truck event will add to a fall weekend at Dover Downs International Speedway that includes racing from NASCAR’s Winston Cup Series and the Busch Grand National Division(Yahoo Biz)(11-3-1999)

- Fain Motorsports UPDATE: Steve Allison, first cousin of Davey, will test the #13 FMS Chevy(didn’t say what track). A full plan for the team will is not yet available but it will include entering the CTS series, BGN series and the Hooters series. FMS will be partnering with RDS racing. The #13 team attempted to make the Memphis BGN race with driver Rodney Smith but failed to make the show(Fain Motorsports Site)(11-2-1999) — UPDATE: A legendary NASCAR family has invested in FMS Racing, the fledgeling fan-owned race team in the Busch Grand National Series. Steve Allison, nephew of Bobby Allison, will begin testing in the drivers seat of the FMS Racing Chevrolet for the 2000 season. Steve and his brother Tommy will also help with the everyday decisions and direction of the FMS Racing team. Plans for next season are to partner with RDS Racing, an established BGN team out of Burlington, NC. RDS played a major role in FMS Racing becoming the first fan-owned team to attempt a NASCAR BGN event this past weekend at Memphis. “Rodney Smith, Jr. drove the car and did a fantastic job.” Marketing Director Chris Douglas stated. “His practice time was fast enough to get into the field but a slip in qualifying had the team missing the field by a couple tenths of a second. Rodney had never been on this track and put forth an effort that we could all be proud of.” Although the team failed to make the race, Douglas feels the weekend was a success. “We can’t say enough good things about this team’s effort. They hit the ground running and made all the owners there feel at home. We had 24 different owners that we brought into the pits and garage area and another 80 in the stands. They came from as far away as Florida, Missouri, Michigan and Oklahoma.” FMS Racing and RDS Racing will field Chevrolet entries together next season in the Craftsman Truck Series with driver Rodney Smith Jr., Busch Grand National Series with Steve Allison, and the Hooters Pro Cup Series with Chris Douglas behind the wheel. Steve Allison and Chris Douglas will be signing autographs at Trackside Treasures in Jackson, TN on Saturday, Nov. 6th from 11 am to 2 pm. - Daytona Changes UPDATE: Daytona International Speedway will add a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event to its Speed Weeks schedule next season. The Speedway will make it official on Tuesday during a morning press conference. Among those expected to announce the addition of trucks to Daytona’s slate are Dennis Huth, NASCAR vice president of touring operations and international development; John Graham, Speedway president; and the newly crowned NCTS champion. The Speedway has already made room on its busy Speed Weeks schedule for the pickup truck race. DIS has moved the Goody’s Dash Series race to Saturday, Feb. 12.
