Rookie Austin Cindric gets first NASCAR Cup victory in thrilling Daytona: On the 85th birthday of his car owner, Roger Penske, 23-year-old NASCAR Cup Series rookie Austin Cindric beat Bubba Wallace to the finish line by .036 seconds in overtime to win Sunday’s 64th running of the Daytona 500. #2-Austin Cindric won the Daytona 500 NASCAR Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway. The win is his 1st career win in just his 8th start.
#23-Wallace finished 2nd followed by #14-Briscoe, #12-Blaney, #10-Almirola, #18-Busch, #34-McDowell, #15-Ragan, #6-Keselowski, and #9-Elliott.
Pole sitter #5-Larson finished 32nd and out of the race following a late accident.
The race ended after the first Overtime session, forced by a caution with 6 laps remaining.
The race was red flagged with 9 laps remaining after an accident that involved #4-Harvick, #5-Larson, #9-Elliott, #38-Gilliland, #43-Jones, and #62-Gragson. Larson got into the rear of Harvick and there was no place to go for several drivers.
Stage 1 ended under caution after #2-Keselowski pushed #21-Burton, turning him. Burton hit #24-Byron and #18-Busch. Burton’s car got upside down but rolled back over.  #11-Hamlin, #20-Bell, #1-Chastain, and #48-Bowman were also involved.
#19-Truex, Jr. won both stages.
There were 35 lead changes among 13 drivers and 7 cautions for 37 yellow flag laps.
The average speed of the race was: 142.295mph.

#34-McDowell finished second, followed by #21-Burton, #18-Busch, #20-Bell, #19-Truex, Jr., #23-Wallace, #47-Stenhouse, Jr., #22-Logano, and #4-Harvick.
#22-Logano was leading the race on the final lap when #17-Buescher moved down the track to take the lead. Logano attempted to block him, but made contact with Buescher and spun out.
#44-Biffle was the top finishing open driver and will race Sunday.
#27-Villeneuve will make the Daytona 500 based on his qualifying speed.
#66-Hill was the lowest finishing open driver and will mist the race.

Duel Races Pit stall selections

#5-Kyle Larson won the Busch pole for the Daytona 500 NASCAR Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway with speed of 181.159mph, for his 1st pole at Daytona and 11th of his career.
#48-Bowman will start the race in second. This is the fifth year in a row that he will start the Daytona 500 on the front row.
The rest of the field will be set after the Duel races on Thursday night. Qualifying set the field for those races.
#5-Larson will start on the pole for the first duel, followed by#24-Byron, #9-Elliott, #1-Chastain, and #99-Suarez.
#48-Bowman is the pole sitter for the second duel, followed by #10-Almirola, #19-Truex, Jr., #11-Hamlin, and #21-Burton.
The fastest two open teams: #62-Gragson and #27-Villeneueve are guaranteed a starting position in the race based on their qualifying speeds. Their starting spots will be determined by their finish in the Duels.
The remaining open drivers: #50-Grala, #44-Biffle, #55-Yeley, and #66-Hill will have to race their way in.  The top open driver in each Duel makes the race.  The other two will not qualify.
