Standridge Released From Ride: Thomasville, NC (7-13-97)– Triad Motorsports announced Monday that they have released Billy Standridge as the driver for the #78 Hanes Racing Ford Thunderbird. The decision was made after the team failed to qualify for the 300 at Loudon, New Hampshire. “The 1997 season has been a real struggle for the team,” said Jim Wilson, owner of Triad Motorsports. “Despite a major boost from Hanes, our new primary sponsor, we still need to step up our performance. We have been able to put some fast cars on the track, but we have been unable to find the right mix that will allow us to run consistently on Sunday. We go way back with Billy,” said Wilson. “This was a very difficult decision for me and my partners Steve Lane and Billy Hagen. However, it is what we needed to do to move the team forward. Billy is a man of outstanding character and drive, and we wish him the best in his future racing endeavors. New driving responsibilities for Triad/Hanes Racing will be announced as soon as they are finalized. An announcement will be made prior to the Pennsylvania in Pocono, PA(Triad Motorsports Press Release 7-14-97)
