Waste Management signs with NASCAR: Waste Management Inc. recently signed a multi-year sponsorship with NASCAR, calling for the Houston-based company to spend between $2 million and $3 million a year on a national marketing campaign. As the exclusive waste services sponsor of the car racing league, Waste Management will be able to use the NASCAR logo in its marketing materials. The company will spend money on rights fees, advertising, marketing programs and marketing deals with various racetracks. There are 140 NASCAR-affiliated tracks — 30 of which host national racing events. The 30-year-old waste retrieval company serves 25 million residential customers and 2 million commercial customers in 48 states. The business is roughly organized as 1,500 separate operating units that serve Waste Management’s various markets. The NASCAR sponsorship is part of Waste Management’s overall marketing plan set to launch in 2002. Knapp, who also will help local markets with their advertising, does not know how much the firm will ultimately spend on its annual marketing budget. One goal of revving up with NASCAR is the chance to do business with other NASCAR sponsors, licensees, tracks and race teams, Knapp says.(Houston Business Journal)(7-9-2001) (7-8-2001) see the July 2-8, 2001 Archived News Page Jayski’s Silly Season Site Main Page This page designed by Jayski LLC, 1996-2012© All Rights Reserved.
