Hornish in NASCAR? UPDATE: Current Indy Car(IRL) points leader Sam Hornish Jr. told the Herald Citizen at Nashville that he would like to move to NASCAR after he had accomplished what he wanted in open wheel(8-9-2001) UPDATE: Hornish says he intends to fulfill the remaining two years of his three-year contract with Pennzoil Panther Racing. Hornish acknowledged that there have been some inquiries about his services from CART teams, and rumors about a possible ride in NASCAR with Chip Ganassi Racing circulated the IRL garage area in Joliet, Ill., last weekend. One reporter even tossed out the obligatory Formula One question, which Sam promptly swatted away. “Right now, the way I look at it, I’m 100 percent staying with the IRL,” said Hornish, whose series résumé consists of only 19 starts. “They have the Indy 500, and that’s my goal. There’s very few other things in the world of motorsports that excite me outside of the Indy 500, and winning Indy-car championships. If it wasn’t for the IRL, I wouldn’t have a place to race. Or I’d be racing something with fenders. Far as I’m concerned, staying here is the only right thing I can do.”(Star Telegram)(9-6-2001)
