VA License Plates: Virginia House Bill 96, sponsored by Delegate Allen W. Dudley (R-Rocky Mount), has been approved by the Virginia House of Delegates on a 96-4 vote and sent to the Senate for consideration. This bill would authorize the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), upon receipt of 350 prepaid applications for a particular plate, to issue license plates commemorating any driver, track or other aspect of motorsports. For example, after receiveing 350 prepaid applications for a plate commemorating Dale Earnhardt, the Commissioner of DMV would be authorized to issue an Earnhardt plate. This measure passed the House last year, but was tabled in the Senate Tranportation Committee. NASCAR fans in Virginia can let their State Senator know they support the proposal, by going to the following page: VA General Assmebly – Who’s My Legislator?(2-7-2002)
