Ward Honored:

Ward Honored: #22-Ward Burton was honored at South Boston Speedway Saturday, April 13 as part of the “Ward Burton Appreciation Day,” an event held in conjunction with the NASCAR Winston Cup race in Martinsville 60 miles away. As part of the event, South Boston Speedway even renamed its entrance 500 Ward Burton Way after their hometown hero. Burton, winner of February’s Daytona 500, is a native of South Boston and the first Virginian to win the prestigious 500-mile event in Daytona Beach. Aside from being honored by longtime friends, community members and the track which helped launch his career, Burton also sought support for “Club 22.” The program is part of The Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation and offers memberships for $22 instead of the customary $25. WD-40 Company, who recently signed a partnership with Burton, showed their support by presenting a $2,500 donation to the Wildlife Foundation. They also provided a WD-40/NASCAR beverage huggie to each person who joined Club 22 at the event.(WD-40 PR)(4-25-2002) (4-24-2002)
