Special #21 Scheme: The legendary Wood Brothers Racing #21 Ford Taurus, driven by Elliott Sadler and sponsored by Motorcraft, will be sporting a special paint scheme honoring Air Force bomber aircraft during Coca-Cola 600 race, 26 May, at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC. The paint scheme features the B-1 Lancer on the right side of the car, the B-52 Stratofortress — the venerable workhorse of the Air Force bomber fleet — on the left side and the stealthy B-2 Spirit on the hood of the car. The United States has used all three of these aircraft in its war on terrorism. At the Coca-Cola 600, a B-2 from Whiteman Air Force Base, MO will do a fly-by after country and western singer George Jones finishes “50,000 Names,” a song about the Vietnam Wall. A four-ship formation of F-15 Eagles from Seymour Johnson AFB, S.C., will also conduct a flyover after Jones finishes singing the National Anthem. Additionally, an Air Force honor guard, a bugler playing TAPS and the USAF STARS Parachute Jump Team will perform at the Coca-Cola 600. Gen. Hal M. Hornburg, Air Combat Command commander, will be attending the race and will address the crowd and administer the Oath of Enlistment to 50 new recruits prior to the start of the Coca-Cola 600. Additionally, Hornburg will be accepting the Stonewall Jackson award – given yearly for patriotism in the military – on behalf of Gen. John P, Jumper, Air Force Chief of Staff, who is unable to attend.
