Fan Friendly Area Set Aside for Awards Ceremony: Fans can see drivers before the Winston Cup Series Awards Ceremony on December 6 in New York City. There will be an Oscar-like “Red Carpet Arrival” to the Hammerstein Ballroom from 6:00-7:30pm/et. The Hammerstein Ballroom formerly was known as the Manhattan Opera House, which was built in 1906 by composer Oscar Hammerstein. It’s in the Manhattan Center, located in Midtown, on West 34th Street near the theatre district and Madison Square Garden. In addition to drivers, other celebs on hand that night will be: actor James Woods, Master of Ceremonies and musician Sheryl Crow, who will perform two songs during the evening. Multi-platinum rock group Third Eye Blind will also perform. The group is currently working with NASCAR to include their new single, “Faster,” in NASCAR’s “How Bad Have You Got It” campaign. If you’re not able to make it to the Big Apple, the ceremony will be broadcast live on TNT from 8:00 to 10:30pm/et.(Racing Milestones)(12-2-2002)
