As the only National Non-Profit organization currently involved in BGN primary sponsorship, Civil Air Patrol leaders are excited about the opportunities for continued exposure in 2003. In August of 2002, the Board of Governors voted to continue their sponsorship of the #46 Chevy, piloted by Ashton Lewis, Jr. through the 2003 season. The Board of Governors decided to extend the sponsorship because they were pleased with the exposure that Civil Air Patrol was receiving, their membership numbers are steadily increasing, and because they know they found the perfect role model for their cadets in driver, Lewis, Jr.
The Civil Air Patrol organization has taken on a new role in Homeland Security. On a recent visit to the White House, Major General Bowling was named as one of the 43 members of the National Citizen Corp. Council. The council has representatives from state and local governments, first-responder groups, emergency management agencies, volunteer service organizations and the private sector. Mike Brown, deputy director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, said the national council âÂÂwill play a major role in promoting citizen preparedness and homeland security nationwide. In response to the new responsibilities that Civil Air Patrol will be assuming, the leadership decided that a new paint scheme was in line for the #46 Chevy. Civil Air Patrol is actively seeking tax deductible donations, or associate sponsors for our racing program. For more information please contact [email protected]. Civil Air Patrol, the official Air Force Auxiliary, is a nonprofit organization with over 63,000 members nationwide. It performs more than 85% of inland search and rescue missions tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center in the continental United States. Volunteers also take a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to the over 25,000 young people currently participating in CAP cadet programs.
