Speedway Motorsports Inc. chairman Bruton Smith, whose holdings include Las Vegas Motor Speedway, said he has been approached about buying into the Charlotte, N.C., NBA team. Smith told the Charlotte Observer that he met with Bob Johnson, who is paying $300 million for the Charlotte NBA franchise, and was awaiting a formal proposal from Johnson before deciding whether to buy into the club.( Las Vegas Sun )(3-12-2003)
