UPDATE: Robby McGehee, the 1999 Indianapolis 500 rookie of the year and a four-year veteran of the Indy Racing League, will be named today as the driver for a new team in the Truck Series. McGehee, 29, is expected to make his truck debut June 21 in Memphis, TN. “I’m looking forward to trying something different,” said McGehee, who lives in Chesterfield. “I know I have a lot to learn. Humble is the best way to describe how I feel going into this.” McGehee’s career has been rooted in open-wheel racing. He has never driven a truck or a stock car in competition. “The first thing I want to do is go to a stock-car school,” he said. Then, the team – Travel Club Motorsports – will do extensive testing “until I’m comfortable,” he said. The team plans to participate in 10 races this year, including the Ram Tough 200 on July 19 at Gateway International Raceway, this year, then run the full truck series schedule next year, McGehee said. “A lot of the skills I learned racing in the IRL the last four years certainly will help,” McGehee said. “If you’re a driver, you know how to drive. … This is a new project for me, and I’m looking forward to it very much.”(St Louis Post-Dispatch)(5-17-2003)
