Tire War in ARCA?

Hoosier has been the spec tire for ARCA at the NASCAR tracks for several years, a backup tire in case something happens to Goodyear. Now, though, Hoosier may have to make way for one of the two tire giants, Bridgestone-Firestone and Michelin/B.F.Goodrich, that want to step up to play the Winston Cup game eventually. With Goodyear holding exclusive rights to NASCAR’s top three divisions, ARCA offers the only good road for a rival tire company to learn how to play the game at some of the sport’s fastest tracks. ARCA president Ron Drager is on his toes. If Bridgestone or Michelin were to come to Drager and make an offer to become the exclusive tire supplier, it could be quite a lucrative deal for ARCA, not just monetarily but in promotion and marketing. Hoosier simply doesn’t offer those options.( Winston Salem Journal )(6-8-2003)
