David Starr admits his original intention of returning to the Truck Series for this weekend’s race at Kansas Speedway was overly optimistic. “You’re always optimistic, but then reality sets in,” said Starr, who suffered a broken right collarbone and fractures in his left hand and foot in a crash during a test at The Milwaukee Mile on June 11. Starr will sit out his third consecutive race Saturday, and also figures to miss the ensuing event at Kentucky Speedway on July 12. Starr plans to return to the #75 Spears Manufacturing Chevy at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill., on July 19. Starr said his injured hand is regaining strength, and he is wearing a protective boot on his foot. Starr also has been outfitted with a brace that wraps around his shoulders to help his collarbone heal as straight as possible. “I’ve been taking calcium pills, and I’ve about drank the store across the street out of chocolate milk,” said Starr, 35. “The whole process of trying to get bones to mend has been tough. But I’m doing the right thing.”(Fort Worth Star Telegram)(7-3-2003)
