Chevy Engine Approved:

General Motors will have a new 358 c.i. engine in its NASCAR Trucks next season. The new GM engine has been under development for four years, and Doug Duchardt, GM’s new boss, said that the new engine should have come as no surprise to anyone in the Winston Cup garage, though it certainly did. GM had generally lost interest in the Truck series the last few years, so GM’s newfound interest, coming along with NASCAR’s surprising decision to OK a brand new engine, indicates that the two are not unrelated, and it raises questions about how much added marketing GM will provide for NASCAR.(Winston Salem Journal)(7-5-2003)
