Busch Series rookie Regan Smith resigned from Bost Motorsports today, NASCAR Winston Cup Scene Busch Series Editor Rick Houston has learned. After scoring a 34th-place finish in his first restrictor-plate start in last Fridays Winn-Dixie 250 at Daytona, Smith had moved into second place in the Raybestos Rookie of the Year standings. He had started all but two races for the team in its #22 Chevy, recording a best finish of 15th at Texas.(Winston Cup Scene Daily Newsletter)
UPDATE: BGNRacing.com reports that the team shut down after Daytona. Smith is currently available to sign with another team and is under no other obligations at this time.(7-7-2003)
UPDATE 2: Regan Smith has resigned as the driver of the unsponsored Bost Motorsports NASCAR Busch Series team to pursue other driving opportunities, as the team’s future is uncertain at this time. The 19-year-old driver has competed in 16 of the 18 Busch Series races this year in Bost’s #22 Chevrolets. He moved into second place in the 2003 Raybestos Rookie Of The Year standings following last Friday night’s Busch Series race at Daytona. Bost Motorsports had competed in all the Busch Series races this year using other drivers at Daytona in February and at Talladega before NASCAR approved Smith to run at those tracks. “I had hoped to finish the year driving for Danny Bost while building a team that would be competitive in the Busch Series this year and in the future,” said Regan Smith. “I want to thank Danny, George Church and all the guys at the shop that have been behind me to this point as we tried to compete against well financed teams while unsponsored.”AND Danny Bost announced today that his NASCAR Busch Grand National Team, Bost Motorsports that fields the #22 Chevrolet Monte Carlos for Raybestos Rookie contender Regan Smith has suspended operation immediately.(BGNRacing)(7-9-2003)
