#20-Tony Stewart used a Head And Neck Support (HANS) device during a race for the first time in Sunday’s New England 300, team officials confirmed. Stewart was among the few drivers who had not used one of the two approved head and neck support devices before NASCAR mandated them in the fall of 2001. He said claustrophobia made it difficult for him to feel comfortable to use the HANS, and when the restraints became required he opted to use the less restrictive Hutchens device until Sunday.( Thatsracin.com )(7-21-2003)
