More on Ward Burton and Bill Davis and a possible split:

from an XM Satellite- NASCAR Radio (Subscription Required) interview by Claire B. Lang (CBL): XM-CBL: Is Ward looking elsewhere? Bill Davis: “Well….it’s no secret that we have have had two very unproductive years – I mean we did win two races last year including the Daytona 500 but we haven’t raced to our potential in a couple of years. You know we’ve been together a long time and these things don’t usually go on forever and we’ve been dissatisfied with the performance and just haven’t been happy with what we’ve had going on and you know it may well be time for a change and a fresh start for both of us. We need to make some changes. We need to check some things up. You know We’re well into our second very unproductive season for both teams. We haven’t raced to our potential in a long time. We haven’t put up the numbers that we needed to. We won two races but still finished what 14th in points or something and that’s just not acceptable. I tell everybody that works for us nobody’s job is secure right now because we need to make some cfhanges and get some fresh blood and some fresh ideas in here and you now get going with something. XM-CBL: Have you told Ward he’s free to look around? Davis: Well Ward’s under contract. I guess he’s out shopping around so whatever. XM-CBL: So it could be a driver – a crew chief a team member -anything? Davis: Anything could happen around here in the next 60-90 days – we’re looking for some improvement.( XM Satellite- NASCAR Radio – Subscription Required)(8-3-2003)
