So…rain? Tires?

what happens at Watkins Glen if it rains this coming weekend? [a 50% chance per the Weather Channel and 31% per Accuweather.com], can assume [oops] that Goodyear will have their ‘wet’ race tire available for the teams. It is NOT a rain tire. The cars would not run in a steady or heavy rain, but could run on a wet track. A windshield wiper [front only] and a rear brake light would also be installed. The ‘wet’ tires are only used on road course track, if needed.(8-6-2003) UPDATE: Rain tires? Watkins Glen is the one track where NASCAR has threatened to use them, but most drivers and car owners consider that more of a marketing ploy to boost ticket sales in the area than a real possibility. The last time NASCAR tried to get drivers even to run a few laps, they finally decided it was too wet for the rain tires.( Winston Salem Journal ), ‘wet’ / ‘rain’ tires are NOT mentioned in the Goodyear Tire Notes but Goodyear does have 1200 wet/rain tires at the track.(8-7-2003) AND Winston Cup Series director John Darby also said that the use of rain tires this weekend is a possibility, but that they would be employed only in the race on Sunday in an effort to complete the race if bad weather came after the event had started.( ThatsRacin.com )(8-9-2003)
