According to sources, the only reason Stewart hasn’t signed with Ganassi yet is Greg Zipadelli, his crew chief. Stewart wants Zipadelli, but Zipadelli isn’t sure what he wants to do. It appears to be a similar situation to that which faced Ray Evernham and Jeff Gordon a few years ago. Zipadelli wants Stewart to stay with Gibbs, but Stewart – though he is not saying much – seems inclined to move on.( Winston Salem Journal )(8-8-2003) UPDATE: With rumors continuing to circulate concerning Tony Stewarts future post-2004 when his contract at Joe Gibbs Racing expires Stewart said there were no changes. He and his agent/lawyer, Cary Agajanian, continue to negotiate with the intent of extending his relationship with Gibbs. Yes, said Stewart, he has talked with rival owner Chip Ganassi. I talk with Chip every week, but not about driving with him. I talk him because I see him in the garage and we know each other, Stewart said.
