Nextel is close to buying land near Concord, N.C., where NASCAR’s safety facility and a number of teams are based, USA Today reports. The story says the telecommunications company, which takes over sponsorship of NASCAR’s top series next year, plans on hiring a 20-person staff that “presumably will include some” employees of R.J.
