David Greens 36-point cushion over Vickers is close, but amazingly enough, four others have been closer with five races to go in the season. Todd Bodine led Joe Nemechek by one point with five races left in 1992, before Nemechek was able to come back and capture the title by three points over Bobby Labonte. That was the slimmest margin in series history. The year before, in 1991, Kenny Wallace held a two-point advantage over Bobby Labonte with five events remaining. Labonte wound up the champion. In 1989, Tommy Ellis led fellow veteran Tommy Houston by nine points with five races to go, before Rob Moroso overtook Houston in the seasons final race at Martinsville Speedway to lay claim to the championship. Finally, Brett Bodine led Larry Pearson by 19 points with five races to go in 1986, but Pearson was able to overcome the deficit and clinch his first of two consecutive NASCAR Busch Series championships. With only five races to go in the season, the 80-point margin between Green and Keller is the closest first to fifth-place margin in the history of the NASCAR Busch Series.(NASCAR PR)(10-15-2003)
