Dale Jarrett’s contributions to the community have been well documented over the course of his racing career. Those efforts were recognized in 1997 and 2000 when he won the True Value Man of the Year award for his efforts with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Jarrett’s efforts have been recognized again as he has been selected as the third quarter nominee for the USG Person of the Year award for 2003. Each year, NASCAR recognizes drivers, not only for their accomplishments on the track, but for their community service contributions and charitable efforts. For the purpose of determining the NASCAR USG Person of the Year Award winner, the NASCAR Winston Cup season is divided into four quarters in which drivers are nominated for their off-track efforts. A select group of panelists selects one of the four quarterly finalists as the NASCAR USG Person of the Year. This award will be presented the week of the NASCAR Winston Cup Series Awards Ceremony in New York City, along with a prize of $100,000. The prize will be divided evenly between the driver and the charity of his/her choice. Jarrett joins teammate Elliott Sadler and fellow Winston Cup driver Ricky Craven as three of the four nominees that will be decided between for the final award. Sadler was named as the second quarter nominee, while Craven was recognized for his efforts during the first quarter of the season.(see full story at the UPS Racing site )(10-15-2003)
