Seven-time NASCAR Winston Cup champion Dale Earnhardts modern-era record of 174 consecutive weeks among the top 10 in the championship is certain to remain unreachable for the next two seasons, but #48-Jimmie Johnson is the primary active driver who is in position to mount a challenge at that mark. Johnson, in his second full NASCAR Winston Cup season, will crack the NASCAR Top 10 for consecutive weeks in the top 10 in the championship following Sundays Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Johnson enters Sundays race having been among the top 10 in the NASCAR Winston Cup championship for 65 consecutive weeks. Regardless of his race finish, he will extend his streak to 66 consecutive weeks and allow him to crack the NASCAR Top 10 modern-era list for that category. The streak, which is tops among active drivers, will move him into a tie for 10th with Sterling Marlin. See more and the Top 10 list on my Stats and Stats Links page .(10-22-2003)
