Race fans can always spot the Team Marines pit area by looking for the United States flag and the United States Marine Corps flag. This weekend at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, the regular United States flag will be replaced by a special flag recently presented to the Team Marines Racing Team. When co-team owner Sam Rensi opened his mail earlier this week, he was welcomed with a great surprise; a United States Flag that had been flown on September 11, 2003 at the Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan in honor of Team Rensi Motorsports. Captain Sandy Gaspar, a friend of the racing team had arranged for the flag to be flown in honor of Team Rensi Motorsports. An enclosed note from Gaspar spoke of how many of the Marines were able to catch some of the races in Afghanistan. According to Gaspar, watching the # 25 Team Marines Ford dominate on the track was a great motivator for the troops. The flag will wave proudly over the Team Marines Racing Team during Saturday’s Aaron’s 312 NASCAR Busch Series race and Sunday’s Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500.(Team Rensi PR)(10-25-2003)
