Jimmie Johnson will donate $48 – he drives the #48 Chevrolet – for every lap he completes Sunday in the NASCAR Winston Cup Checker Auto Parts 500 at Phoenix International Raceway to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. The money will be ticketed to help those families affected by the wildfires in Southern California. Johnson grew up in the city of El Cajon, near one of the fires burning in San Diego County. In addition, Lowe’s, the sponsor on his Hendrick Motorsports Chevy, will donate $100,000 to the American Red Cross.( Orange County Register )(10-29-2003)
