Carl Edwards’ celebration following his win Friday night in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series opener at Daytona took a somber tone when Edwards learned the mother of his car chief, Steve McCain, had died unexpectedly at her home that evening. Within a few hours, team owner Jack Roush had arranged for one of his planes to come from Livonia, Mich., to Daytona Beach to transport McCain to be with his family in Owensboro, Ky. “Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his entire family. We’ve gotten to know many members of his family and the loss has affected everyone on this team,” Edwards said. “If we can win the championship this year it will certainly be dedicated to her memory.”(ThatsRacin.com)(2-16-2004)
