Goodyear conducted a tire test last week at Daytona to determine what tire compound NASCAR will use for next year’s Daytona 500. “We wanted to improve the wear of the tire for Daytona,” says Stu Grant, Goodyear’s general manager of worldwide racing. “It may be a little softer than what we’re using now, but we’re going to wait and see what the rules are for 2005, and we’ll react after discussing it with NASCAR.
