Saturday’s Truck Series victory by Carl Edwards was put into question when his #99 Ford failed to meet the minimum-height requirement in post-race inspection at Kansas. NASCAR has decided to confiscate some parts of Edwards’ truck and take them to its research and development center in Concord, NC., for further review. Edwards was involved in a Lap 1 accident in the race that damaged his truck. NASCAR wants to check to see if that damage could have affected the height measurement, spokesman Mize Zizzo said Saturday night.(ThatsRacin.com)(7-4-2004)
UPDATE: Statement from NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Director Wayne Auton regarding the No. 99 Ford of Carl Edwards failing the minimum height requirement during Saturdays post-race inspection for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Kansas Speedway: After reviewing and evaluating the parts that NASCAR officials secured from the No. 99 truck of Carl Edwards, NASCAR has reached the conclusion that the first-lap accident in which he was involved was the direct cause for the truck failing the minimum height requirement during post-race inspection. As a result of those findings, there will be no penalties assessed.(NASCAR PR)(7-8-2004)
